Who am I?

I am Andrew Que!  I have been a computer enthusiast the most of my life.  I work as a software engineer and write code for embedded systems (ie. computers that are "inside" something-- like your cell phone).  I've been writing software since I was 12-year-old and professionally now for over 10 years.

I love computers and have played with them in all kinds of areas: programming, graphics, music, networking, hardware design, ext., ext.

I run DrQue.net-- my personal domain, from which I host a variety of websites for myself and friends.  The domain is run in-house off an array of computers.  Although I've made a number of websites for myself as well as friends, I don't really like doing it all that much.  However, I do enjoy things such as PHP and Javascript.  I've grown fairly proficient at web design and it's pretty useful for getting information to the world.

What kind of person am I?

I generally think of myself as a friendly person and try my best to stay open minded.  I remain very relaxed on everything and I don't really worry about anything.  That is not to say I neglect responsibility, I just don't let issues bother me.  Partly control, partly apathy.  I don't yell (unless I'm trying to be obnoxious) and I'll typically give up in an argument when I don't care (which is most of the time).  I do talk to random people on the Internet (gasp!) so if you feel inclined to do such a thing, see my contact page.

I don't drink, don't smoke, don't do drugs, don't spell too well, and don't drive over the speed limit (no, seriously).  However, I don't hold it against anyone who does any of those things as many of my friends do.

What I do/don't and like

I am kind of an odd person, and I like that.  I am a non-conformist and I pride myself on doing things I want to do, not doing things because some or most other people do it.  I fit a little on the punk rock side, but really, I don't have a category.

I sleep in a box; philosophize for hours with friend while drinking coffee; read scientific articles-- especially when related to the cosmos; read/watch anything on World War II and the Vietnam war; listen to music; recording music; bicycling; roller skate; and drink milk.

I detest sports, name brand close, ads, government, I don't watch TV (or own one), listen to the radio; have no tolerance for bigotry (race, religion, sexual preference, whatever) and I hate it when people don't use their turn signals and forget to turn off lights when they leave a room.

I love people; computers; winter; good conversation; loud music; hugs; getting rowdy; people having a good time and random acts of kindness.

General background

I was born in Wisconsin, USA and lived here the majority of my.  In 1994, my family and I moved to North Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.  After I graduated high school, I quickly moved back to Wisconsin (too hot in the south!).  I moved into a little 1 bedroom house with 6 other people and lived there happily for 5 years.  In the late summer of 2001, I moved to Kansas City, Missouri and lived in the basement of a good friend.  The following summer, I returned to Beloit, Wisconsin to live with more people.  In 2006 the company I was working for dissolved and I returned to school full-time. I've been in between school and contract work, trying to get my degree in computer science and mathematics. Currently, I live in my little house with several other people (up to 10 others at times)-- I love to have good people around.

What do I want to be when I grow up?

Ever since I started writing software (so from around age 12) I've wanted to be a computer programmer. When I was 18, I began living out that dream. After 9 years as a professional computer programmer, the company I was working for went under and I've become a full-time student. I hope to get a degree in Computer Science and Mathematics and return to the field of embedded software development. One day I'd like to make something out of our software company Master Minds' Software with my good friend, Tyson Mohr.  I'd also like to one day earn a doctorate (and truly be Dr. Que).  When I settle down, I would like to adopt a bunch of kids and see if I can't live with several other families in a large house.  I want to travel the world, spending some time living in at least one other country.  And I like to teach after I have had a whole bunch of experience with computers, working and traveling.

What do I look like?

I am a dude about 5'10" (1.78 m) tall and kida scrawny.  My hair is brown/sand blond with the front half of my head shaved and the back over 28 inches (71 cm) long.  I typically keep it pulled into tail.  I dress plainly, typically in a white shirt and blank denim plants.  I where combat style boots (I don't have regular shoes) and blouse my pants around the top.

When it's cool in the spring and fall, I wear a cape.  It's an official British policeman's cape I was very surprised to have received one year at x-mas.  In the winter, I where a long, black leather trench coat.  I've always loved leather trench coats and mine is beautiful :)  Even though I work for myself, I typically put on a white dress shirt-- helps me keep the mindset.  And everywhere I go, I have to have my hat.  I have had 3 or 4 over the years.  Currently, my hat is a porkpie, which is similar to a fedora.  I really like the styles from the 1920-1940's.
